Alpha Bank Romania, Banca Romaneasca, Piraeus Bank, Romania, Volksbank
Romania and Banca Transilvania have requested the Competition Council to
grant them the benefit of an individual exception in the case of the
agreement of co-operation on establishing jointly the level of the bank
commission charged in connection with transactions conducted with cards
issued by the signing banks, on the ATMs in the network.
According to a communiqué of the Competition Council, Competition Law bans
any kind of agreement, express or silent, among economic operators or
associations of economic operators and any kind of concerted practice the
object or effect of which is the restriction, hindering or distortion of
competition on the Romanian market or on part of it
The Council has started an investigation as a result of the dispensation
application. For a correct evaluation of the effects of the agreement of
co-operation closed by Alpha Bank Romania, Banca Romaneasca, Piraeus Bank
Romania, Volksbank Romania and Banca Transilvania, the Competition Council
has invited the interested parties to send their observations in writing no
later than the 29th of July 2006.
