Competition Council OK's Pepsi takeover
The Competition Council issued a non- intervention decision in the case of the takeover of Quadrant Amroq Bottling, producer and distributor of Pepsi drinks in Romania by Pepsi Americas USA, the second largest Pepsi- Cola producer in the world. "The Competition council has found that this economic concentration operation cannot come under the provisions of the Competition Law," the Council release shows. The Competition Law provides that it needs to be notified only in the case of economic concentrations where the combined turnover of the involved companies exceeds 10 million euros and there are at least two other companies in Romania which a turnover larger than four million euros each.

US Pepsi Americas announced in April this year it intends to buy this year a 51 percent stake in the Quadrant-Amroq Bottling group, in which it already holds 49 percent of titles. Last year PepsiAmericas bought 49 percent of QAB shares for 51 million dollars. QAB Romania is part of the Quadrant Amroq Bottling Company Limited company and holds two bottling lines for soft drinks in Bucharest and one in Covasna, for mineral water. The company registered a 150 million dollar turnover last year.
